Where we are

We are situated right in the centre of Amalfi, 50 metres from the Cathedral and 150 metres from the bus terminal, ferries and the beach. It’s really easy to reach the hotel, especially with public transport from Salerno. You can visit the town on foot and use the bus and ferries to visit the other towns on the Amalfi Coast (eg. Positano and Ravello) or the Peninsula of Sorrento (eg. Capri and Sorrento).

How to get to Amalfi

By Train

The train is undoubtedly the most comfortable and quickest way to reach the Amalfi Coast from all of the main Italian cities. The most convenient station is in Salerno, which can be reached by fast trains from Milan (5h), Bologna (4h), Florence (3h), Rome (2h) and Naples (40min). There isn’t a train station in Amalfi. The station, Vietri sul mare - Amalfi, mentioned on the Trenitalia website, is a small station, about 18km from Amalfi, in an isolated location from which it is difficult to get connections as it is only used for small local trains. However, from Salerno train station, it is easy to reach Amalfi, by public transport or other methods of transport. There are five ways in particular to reach Amalfi. 1. BY FERRY (highly recommended) The ferry service runs from 1/4 to 3/11. The journey takes 35 minutes and costs 8 euros per person. The journey is really pleasant as it gives you a chance to see the Amalfi coast line from the sea. The ferries depart from the tourist port in Salerno, “Masuccio Salernitano”, which is around 500 metres from the station and can be reached on foot in 6-7 minutes. The ferry company is “Travelmar” and the timetable can be found on their website www.travelmar.it. It is not obbligatory to prebook tickets but it is advisable to do so in high season and can be done on their website. Tickets must be bought before taking the ferry and the ticket office is just 30 metres from where you catch the ferry. Once in Amalfi the ferry stops at Piazza Flavio Gioia, around 150 metres from the hotel and just 2-3 minutes away on foot. 2. BY BUS (recommended) The bus service runs throughout the year, except for New Year’s Eve, Christmas and Easter. You can reach Amalfi by bus in around 1 hour and 10 minutes and it costs 2 euros 20 per person. The bus stop is in front of the station to the right, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The bus arrives at the station after around 5 minutes from leaving the bus terminal in Via Vinciprova. The bus company is Sita Sud Trasporti and bus timetables can be downloaded from their website at www.sitasudtrasporti.it. Click on “Orari Campania linea Amalfi-Maiori-Salerno). On non-working days (holidays and sundays) only the buses with a H or G on the timetable will be running. Seats cannot be booked in advance. Tickets must be purchased prior to boarding the bus at the newsagents just inside the station or at one of the bars or tabachi in Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Once in Amalfi, we suggest you get off the bus at the bus terminal, in Piazza Flavio Gioia, which is about 150 metres from the hotel and 2-3 minutes away on foot. 3. CAR HIRE WITH DRIVER/TRANSFER (recommended) This service is organised by the hotel. It is available throughout the year and enables you to arrive in Amalfi in around 50 minutes. The cost varies from €55,00 - €100,00 per group according to the number of passengers (max 8) and the company available at the time. The cost is per group, per journey. The service is supplied by affiliated companies and must be booked through the hotel at least 24 hours before. The payment must be made at the hotel when checking out. The driver will collect passengers at the entrance of the train station where he will wait with a sign with the passengers names on it. Upon arrival in Amalfi, passengers will be left at Piazza Flavio Gioia, which is about 150 metres away from the hotel and 2-3 minutes on foot. 4. TAXI (not recommended) The taxi rank is just outside the station. This service is available throughout the year and a precise cost cannot be estimated, although it is usually high. This service must be organised independantly by those wishing to use it. For more information look the page Services. 5. CAR HIRE WITHOUT A DRIVER (highly unadvisable) There are various car hire companies near the train station in Salerno. We advise against hiring a car as it is not a necessity in Amalfi. It is easy to get around on foot or with public transport. Furthermore it isn’t easy to drive on the Amalfi Coast and car parks are expensive and have limited availability. If you do decide to hire a car, you need to drive along the road Corso Garibaldi and the following roads for about 3 km, until you reach Vietri Sul Mare, where you then need to take the road SS 163 Costiera Amalfitana. To park your car we advise you to use Garage Luna Rossa (more informations at the page L'Antico Convitto - Garage).

By Airplane

For those travelling by plane, the most convenient airport is Naples-Capodichino which is about 70km from Amalfi. It is not advisable to fly to Salerno airport even though it is called "Costa d'Amalfi" merely because of the prestige that the name "Amalfi Coast" has around the world. It is a small airport which is not well connected with public transport and has very few companies which fly there. You can reach Amalfi from Naples airport in 5 ways. 1. DIRECT BUS PINTOUR (highly recommended) The bus Pintour departs at the exit of Naples airport in front of the arrivals terminal. There are many lines per day. Bus timetables can be downloaded from website www.pintourbus.com. It takes 1h e 50 minutes to reach Amalfi. The ticket is 20.00 euro per person and can be purchased on the bus. The bus drops off passengers in Piazza Flavio Gioia in Amalfi, which is about 150 metres away from the hotel and 2-3 minutes on foot following the white line in the attached map. The bus can be booked before writing or calling to the contacts on their web site.  2. CAR HIRE WITH DRIVER/TRANSFER (highly recommended) This service is organised by the hotel. It is available throughout the year and enables you to arrive in Amalfi in around 1h and 50 minutes. The cost varies from €70,00 - €110,00 per group according to the number of passengers (max 8) and the company available at the time. The cost is per group, per journey. The service is supplied by partner companies and must be booked through the hotel at least 24 hours before. The payment must be made at the hotel when checking out. The driver will collect passengers at the Arrivals in the airport, where he will wait with a sign with the passengers names on it. Upon arrival in Amalfi, passengers will be left at Piazza Flavio Gioia, which is about 150 meters away from the hotel and 2-3 minutes on foot. 3. PUBLIC TRANSPORT (BUS, TRAIN AND THEN BUS AGAIN OR FERRY) (unadvisable) The alternative to the direct bus or a transfer is public transport. However due to several connections the cost can be higher than that of a transfer, especially if travelling in groups of 4-8 people. If you opt for this solution, we advise you to take the shuttle Alibus Aeroporto- Naples train station. This shuttle departs every 15 minutes. The ticket can be bought on board at a cost of €1,10 per person. The journey to the station takes around 15 minutes. We then advise you to take a train to Salerno. Timetables are available on the website Trenitalia. The train journey to Salerno takes about 40 minutes and the cost varies from 6€ to 10€ per person. Finally, from Salerno we advise you to reach Amalfi by following the indications given in the section "For those travelling by train". 4. TAXI (not recommended) The taxi rank is just outside the airport. This service is available throughout the year and a precise cost cannot be estimated, although it is usually high. This service must be organised independantly by those wishing to use it. 5. CAR HIRE WITHOUT A DRIVER (highly unadvisable)  There are various car hire companies near the airport. We advise against hiring a car as it is not a necessity in Amalfi. It is easy to get around on foot or with public transport. Furthermore it isn’t easy to drive on the Amalfi Coast and car parks are expensive and have limited availability. If you do decide to hire a car, you need to drive on the motorway Napoli Salerno, until you reach Vietri Sul Mare, where you then need to exit the motorway and take the road SS 163 Costiera Amalfitana. To park your car we advise you to use Garage Luna Rossa (more informations at the page L'Antico Convitto - Garage).

By Car

For those wishing to come by car we would remind you the the Amalfi Coast is not easy to manage even for the most experienced driver. The roads are narrow and winding and extremely busy in high season. Car parks are expensive, and often full. It is much easier to get around by public transport (bus and ferry). Generally, even those who arrive by car, do not often use it thereafter. For those who decide to use the car, the exit from the motorway is Vietri Sul Mare, which is on the A3 Napoli-Salerno. For those arriving from the south, the exit is Salerno, which is around 3km from Vietri Sul Mare. At Vietri Sul Mare you need to take the SS 163 Costiera Amalfitana. Amalfi is 18km away on the SS 163. To park your car we advise you to use Garage Luna Rossa (more informations at the page L'Antico Convitto - Garage).
